RICHIO SUZUKI

Richio Suzuki has been spinnin’ tunes for over 35 years. He has moved around playing in many area’s including House in late 80s, old skool hip hop in 90s, eclectic back room and bar sets, celebrity parties, TV shows and festivals. Playing at Ministry of Sound, Southport Weekender and festivals such as Lovebox, Lattitude and Standon Calling.

He has had long residencies at hotel bars such as St Martin’s Lane, Metropolitan Hotel, Hoxton Hotel and recently The Ned. In recent years he’s been playing Funk, Soul, Disco, Jazz, Ska and Northern Soul; plus 50s and 60s at venues like the CLF Art Cafe / Bussey at South London Soul Train in Peckham, Ronnie Scotts in Soho, Passing Clouds in Dalston, and Old Street Records in Shoreditch.

Richio currently hosts several events – Hawaiian Bop, Version Excursion, Mellow Mellow Right On and Music Is My Sanctuary. He has traveled to play abroad visiting Japan, Thailand, France, Ibiza, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark and Bahrain.

Emerging from pirate radio origins in 1994, Rinse FM has transformed into a cultural powerhouse that has shaped the electronic music landscape. From garage and grime to dubstep, house, and UK funky, Rinse FM has been a central force in amplifying underground sounds. Beyond being a community radio station, it has evolved into a respected label and events brand, releasing mix CDs and artist albums.

Now it features in the second edition of Project 6, following a stellar festival debut that quickly won acclaim for its unique day-to-night experience. Among the newly announced additions to the 2024 line up is British rap star AJ Tracey, a man with several big hits to his name and a pair of superb albums. His storytelling style and witty rhythms are second to none over beats that mix up the best of British grime, garage, hip hop and more. He is joined by accomplished London rapper Nines, fresh off the release of his captivating album: Crop Circle 3, and Pusha T, president of G.O.O.D. Music and a standout lyricist whose contribution to hip-hop cannot be underplayed.

Your hot funk, soul and hop dropping dancefloor direct host with the absolute most JAZZHEADCHRONIC, joined by hi-life/hip hop/funk band K.O.G (LIVE) and monumentally direct at PECKHAM LEVELS.

Prepare yourself for a furious, well hot dance off, as this band truly know how to deliver and are guaranteed to make you move. Part of our on-going mission to funk you upah!

K.O.G (Live) – Band On stage around midnight (90 min live set)

Kweku Sackey aka K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana) is a multi-dimensional creative force, combining exquisite writing skills with shamanistic live performance, fierce raps, perfectly on pitch singing across a massive vocal range and some absolutely wicked dance moves. Not to mention his skills as a percussionist, arranger, bandleader and art director. A true poet and storyteller, he uses a mix of English, Pidgin and Ga to paint sonic pictures that reach deep into the souls of everyone ready to listen.

“I love to make music that CONNECTS, REVIVES , EDUCATES and ENTERTAINS, drawing on the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental well being of us as individuals and our quest to maintain balance with the universe.”

Born in Accra, Ghana, to a nurse mother and marine engineer father who had studied in England, he grew up with a diverse range of international influences alongside Ghanaian styles: Tom Waits, Quincy Jones, Bob Marley, Sizzla, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ebo Taylor, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Atongo Simba, George Clinton, Pavarotti, Warsaw Village Band.

Resident for over 10 years in Sheffield, UK, music has taken him to perform on huge stages all over the world, from Glastonbury’s legendary West Holts stage to Fusion (Germany), Sauti Za Busara (Zanzibar), Kabardock (Reunion) and the Commonwealth Games (Gold Cost, Australia), winning the 2018 Young Commonwealth Performer and performing for Nelson Mandela’s family.

A prolific writer and collaborator, he needs a range of projects to showcase the different sides of his unique talent. He is the lead vocalist for afro-futurist project Onipa (Strut Records, Wormfood) and hi-life/hiphop/funk band K.O.G (Heavenly Sweetness), as well as collaborating extensively with Nubiyan Twist; his song ‘If I know’ off the Freedom Fables album (Strut, March 2021) was performed live on Later with Jools Holland and A playlisted twice on BBC6 Music.

THE LONDON AFROBEAT COLLECTIVE (LIVE) – Band on stage around midnight (90 min live set)

London Afrobeat Collective are a tight-knit family of musicians from around the world, living in London and united by a love of afrobeat and a desire to take original music to new places.

This 8-strong collective from England, Italy, France, Congo, Argentina and New Zealand combine traditional afrobeat and hi-life with funk, jazz, Latin and dub to deliver party music born of their truly global DNA. A regular hit on the UK and Europe touring circuit and celebrated for their raucous energy, heavy dance grooves and conscious lyrics, the band has rocked major stages from Glastonbury Festival (UK) to the Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria, via Imagina Funk (Spain), Fusion Festival (Germany), Cully Jazz (Switzerland), Tempo Latino (France), Earth Garden (Malta) and many more.

Taking inspiration from afrobeat father Fela Kuti as well as such artists as Ebo Taylor, Parliament Funkadelic and Havana d’Primera, LAC’s original music and multi-lingual performances in English, Spanish, Lingala and French have won them admirers across Europe.
Their fourth studio album Esengo (Canopy Records – release date 14 February 2024), which means Joy in Lingala includes the new single Topesa Esengo Na Motema (Let Us Give Joy To The Heart) with a remix by Bosq.

Releasing his debut EP “Bulawayo” on the legendary CoOperation Records; singles “Self Healing Machine”, “Vitruvian Man”, EP’s “Ndebele” and “Wanezi” on his home label Tru Thoughts, as well as a double AA side single for Future Bounce (Jamz Supernova’s imprint) – all in all Danny has cemented the WheelUP name as part of the new school of bruk – garnering approval from respected radio and club DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Toddla T, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ben UFO, Bonobo, Laurent Garnier and more.

Influenced by the likes of Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, LTJ Bukem, Krust and Kaidi Tatham, as well as being personally mentored by Afronaut and Adam F, Danny grew up inside the epicentre of BRUK, being studio neighbours with some of the key players in the game including IG Culture, Bugz in the Attic and Goya Music (the leading vinyl distributor of bruk music).

Originating from the drum and bass world as Danny Wheeler, Danny turned his hand to the burgeoning sound of West London’s resurgent scene, Wheeler was knighted the name ‘WheelUP’ by non-other than Afronaut, the founder of ‘Bugz in the Attic’ and a pioneer of the broken beat genre, who has cited WheelUP as “the best thing to come out of the broken beat scene right now!”

Renowned for his positively aggressive and highly charged eclectic good time sets of soul, funk, groove, motown, disco, latin and or future sets of broken to afro beat, jungle to drum and bass + hip hop – One things for sure, whenever or wherever Jazzheadchronic Mickey Smith plays, the dance floor blows up and the crowd always, but always feel it. Local South London husband and wife team, Handson Family (Cyndi Anafo and Chris Ellis) have been DJing and promoting primarily independent music in the capital primarily for over two decades. Passionate about South London’s legacy of Black music club culture and the community they were raised in, HF have turned their hands to many creative ventures beyond DJing including sound creation, booking artists, client tailored events, running pop up spaces and social media content management.

VANESSA FREEMAN (Vocals)

Singer, songwriter and exceptional performer Vanessa is one of the most exciting black females voices to the hit the UK in recent years and destined to be added to the pantheon of singers credited to the ‘Nu Soul’ movement alongside Erica Baddu, Angie Stone and Peven Everet.

The South London Soul Train, both rooms taking all passengers on a Non-Stop Magical Mystery Tour through all things Too Damn Funky. P-Funk to Jazz Funk, Soul Jazz to Rare Groove N’ Stax, Brass, Breaks, Bop and Hop to Motown, Club Classics and Anthems.
